My approach

Migraine is not just a bad headache. It’s a neurological disorder that impacts your life, your work and your family.

Psychological approaches to migraine complement your existing medical care by addressing your nervous system, your emotional life, your patterns of self-care and how you recognise and respond to your body’s signals.

This is for you if…

  • you need additional support beyond what medical care provides
  • you notice migraine is affecting your work, relationships and sense of identity
  • you know stress, trauma, relationship difficulties and challenging emotions worsen your symptoms
  • you find it hard to notice your body’s early warning signs
  • you struggle to be kind to yourself and prioritise your needs.

What we focus on

  • Understanding the neuroscience of pain
You gain a new understanding of how the brain and body produce pain and how you can influence how you experience pain.
  • Identifying triggers and warnings: You explore triggers and learn to identify your body’s early warning signs so you can act before a migraine takes hold.
  • Calming your nervous system: You develop practical, day-to-day pacing skills and relaxation techniques designed to lower your overall physical stress and reduce your nervous system’s sensitivity to pain signals.
  • Managing emotional challenges: You address difficult emotions that can exacerbate your pain like fear of the next attack, anxiety about letting people down and the frustration of missing out.
  • Navigating your daily roles: You figure out how to balance the important roles in your life with boundaries that protect your health – whether you are trying to be a dedicated parent, a reliable employee, or a supportive family member.

Sessions & Fees

Sessions are 50 minutes and the session fee is €80.

Sessions are weekly – a regular rhythm is part of what makes this work effective, providing continuity between sessions and momentum over time.

Some Irish health insurance plans offer partial reimbursement for a set number of sessions per year with an IACP-accredited psychotherapist – check your policy or ask your insurer directly.

Psychotherapy fees may separately qualify for income tax relief as health expenses – visit revenue.ie or citizensinformation.ie to find out the latest rules.
